A coalition of governments has published a list of legitimate-looking Android apps that were actually spyware and used to target civil society groups opposing China’s state interests. The spyware, known as BadBazaar and Moonshine, hid inside popular apps and had surveillance capabilities such as accessing cameras, microphones, chats, photos, and location data. The apps targeted Uyghurs, Tibetans, Taiwanese communities, and civil society groups.
